Many people have wondered about Taijiquan (Tai Chi Chuan)... What is it? Meditation?. . . Exercise?. . . Who is the originator of Taijiquan?. . . Is there an original style?. . . If there is, where can I learn it?
These questions will be answered in this website.
Traditional Chen Family Taijiquan Lao Jia (aka "Zungu Chen Family Taiji", "Gong fu Frame"), the form that I, Debbie, teach, is widely acknowledged as the oldest and the primogenitor of all other Taijiquan (Tai Chi Chuan or Tai Chi) styles. Because the creator of Taijiquan is Chen Wangting, the form carries his surname, "Chen", in recognition of his work.
Created originally as a martial art, Zungu Chen Family Taiji offers both a complete and healthful martial art system. Its comprehensive system contains both barehanded and weapon forms, silk-reeling exercises, and qigong. The system builds up the practitioner's "qi", vital energy, and develops the practitioner's stability, balance, leg strength, and correct body alignment, facilitating the practitioner's pursuit of martial art proficiency and excellence. Zungu Chen Family Taiji, when practiced as a martial art, is characterized by low powerful stances, very subtle supple whole-body twining and coiling movements, stomping, and explosive releases of power that are generally absent from the practice of other Taijiquan styles. However, it can also be practiced with graceful, slow, and light movements. One can practice Zungu Chen Family Taiji in its entirety as an internal martial art or solely for its health benefits.
Research has shown that when Taiji is practiced with graceful, slow, and light movements, it can enhance longevity. Practitioners who have a consistent routine in their practice of Taijiquan have experienced remarkable improvement in their health status... some even to the abolishment of their disease process.
The Traditional (Zungu) Chen Family Taiji forms, qigong and silk-reeling exercises are taught in my classes. Students will learn the basic principles and energies of Taiji. My goal is to promote this original traditional Chen Family Taijiquan in the San Francisco Bay Area of California. Like my teacher, Chen Qingzhou, I want to share this wonderful art of Chen Family Taijiquan with others.
Come explore this site and find little tidbits of information that, hopefully, will pique your curiosity and perhaps impress you to take up the practice of this ancient art form of Chen Taijiquan. Regardless of your age or sex, you can learn this form!
